Dana Road House

A Vermont Gem

We recently enjoyed a four night vacation at Dana Road House with another couple and can highly recommend it.

Woodstock in winter is like a scene from a postcard - a picture perfect, walkable downtown with interesting shops, a lovely common, and lights everywhere. Many winter activities are within close proximity including skiing at Killington, Pico, and Suicide Six ski resorts, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. We were there midweek and found only a few open restaurants, but the Killington area had a lot more choices and was only 25 minutes away.

The best word to describe the house is “cozy.” It’s obvious that the hosts spent a lot of time choosing furniture and decor. The couches and chairs are comfortable and inviting. The bedrooms are well appointed with quality furnishings and linens. Bathrooms are modern and clean. The kitchen is complete and well stocked with every appliance and utensil we needed.

The hot tub was one of our favorite surprises. It is effectively a large cedar barrel filled with very warm water and a wood-fired heating system that keeps the water toasty. We felt it was very clean and much more comfortable than modern plastic hot tubs with their smelly chemicals, noisy pumps, and plastic seats. Our evening soaks were truly the highlights of our trip and a feast for the senses: the smell of the cedar wood and smoke from the nearby fire, the absolute quiet and stillness of the air, the sound of owls and coyotes in the distance, and the dark shadows of the host’s horses meandering along the nearby fence. Sitting there under the stars with our dearest friends, talking about our memories from the day and past adventures with them was a wonderful bonding experience we won’t soon forget.

Kat and Matt were friendly and attentive hosts and made us feel very welcome. Kat and I were in touch occasionally before our trip and several times during our stay via text. Although there was very little we needed, Kat made it very clear she was there to help or offer suggestions at any time. At one point we accidentally pulled the drain plug in the hot tub and drained a fair amount of water. The next day Matt refilled it and lit an extra fire in the heating system to get it up to temperature before that night’s planned soak.

We’ve stayed several times at rental homes booked through VRBO or AirBnB. This property was our favorite, hands down, and that’s in large part due to the attentiveness and consideration of our hosts, Kat and Matt, who put so much effort into making such a cozy, welcoming home. We all agreed that we would gladly rent the property again in the future.

We were so impressed with our stay here!! Everything in the home was perfect, clean, well organized and set up for an easy vacation. I mean…. when we wanted a fire there was wood, when we wanted to go sledding there were like 6 sleds, when we wanted to play games there was a bunch, and there were even carrots when we wanted to feed the sweet horses (the horses alone made our daughters never want to leave!). We met both Kat and Matt and they were perfect caretakers; definitely giving you privacy but they’re always working to make your stay perfect by shoveling snow and keeping the roads clear, etc. We travel a lot and this was definitely the best. Super roomy, clean, fully stocked with things you need or might need (Kat is so on the ball with this anytime I needed something for the kids I found it around the house….amazing!!), and also so private and in a good spot with easy access. We visit VT/NH a lot we will definitely stay here again. It had the convenience of feeling like home but the luxury of being on vacation!!!

Just perfect!

We have just spent a wonderful week in this beautiful house! The house is perfect! The location is great – quiet, peaceful, pretty but still very close to Woodstock for popping in for dinner at the numerous high-class restaurants. The house itself has everything you would want in a rental property – and more! It was immaculately clean, very tastefully furnished and finished to a very high specification. The owner lives very locally and is on hand to recommend restaurants, Fall routes etc but is never intrusive, just helpful. I would happily recommend this home to anyone who wants a perfect base from which to explore this most stunning part of America.

Wonderful Woodstock

This a very superior three bed property situated in a rural setting surrounded by woods and fields.

The house is modern and very well equipped with an efficient heating system. There is a separate rec. room with everything you could wish for. There is also a very impressive hot tub. The property is with easy reach of the centre of the charming village of Woodstock. The owners Kat and Matt are available and very helpful.

Beautiful, relaxing setting very close to town!

First off, the house exceeded our expectations! It is very close to town and the farmers market. Kat was a very gracious host and provided everything we needed to feel like we were at home. Our daughter loved petting Kat’s horses and feeding them carrots. The house was nicely decorated, beds were comfortable and we had no issues with the wifi. Our favorite part of the house was the outdoor patio area that had a nice table and chairs, hot tub and a chiminea which we used a couple of nights to roast marshmallows to make smores. Overall, we had a fantastic vacation and highly recommend staying at the Dana Road House. We are already planning a trip back to Woodstock!

Our family (5 adults) stayed at Dana House for a special family wedding weekend. Kat and Matt are great hosts and the home had everything we needed and more! The location is in a beautiful secluded location just minutes from Woodstock. The home is spacious, updated and clean. Highly recommend that you stay here – you will be delighted!

LOVELY HOME IN A LOVELY AREA

My husband and I stayed in this lovely home for a very cold week in February. But the working wood stove, as well as the abundant sunshine streaming in every morning, kept us toasty warm. The house was wonderful, .immaculately clean and well appointed. Everything you would need, and more, is included here. The layout worked well for us and for our kids, who visited for a few days. The owners horses were a continual source of delight for the 2 and 5 year old grandchildren. . They are still talking about them! We did not want to leave at the end of the week – never felt that way staying even in the best hotel! Kat and Matt are wonderful and only a “field” away if you need them. We hope to be back…we love this house and this town. Thank you Kat and Matt!
